What is cartilage?

Cartilage is a flexible, rubbery connective tissue found in various parts of the body. It provides support and cushioning to joints, as well as a smooth surface for bones to glide over. Unlike bones, cartilage does not contain blood vessels, so it gets its nutrients from the surrounding tissue through a process called diffusion.

There are three main types of cartilage:

Hyaline cartilage.

Fibrocartilage.

Elastic cartilage.

Importance/Benefits of Healthy Knee Cartilage

Maintaining healthy knee cartilage is crucial for overall joint health and mobility. Its benefits include:

Prevention of Pain and Discomfort:.

Healthy cartilage ensures smooth motion, preventing stiffness, grinding, or pain during activities.

Improved Mobility and Flexibility:

Well-functioning cartilage allows the knee to move freely without restrictions, enabling normal activities and athletic performance.

Reduced Risk of Osteoarthritis:

Healthy cartilage protects bones from wear and tear, reducing the likelihood of degenerative conditions like osteoarthritis.

Enhanced Joint Longevity:

Cartilage preserves the integrity of the knee joint, minimizing damage and the need for surgical interventions like knee replacements.

Support for High-Impact Activities:

Strong and healthy cartilage enables individuals to engage in physical activities and sports without risking significant joint injury or discomfort.

Maintaining knee cartilage health through proper nutrition, regular exercise, and avoiding injuries is vital for long-term joint function and quality of life.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease where the knee cartilage gradually breaks down

Symptoms as a Result of Cartilage Damage In OA

Pain: Aching or sharp pain during movement due to exposed bones rubbing together.

Stiffness: Difficulty moving the knee, especially after periods of inactivity.

Swelling: Inflammatory responses lead to swelling around the joint.

Cracking Sounds: Crepitus (grinding or popping sounds) due to uneven surfaces rubbing.

AT RESTOKNEE HOSPITAL MORE THAN 280 PATIENTS EVALUATED FOR CARTILAGE EVALUATION WITH T2 RELAXOMETRY, PRE AND POST RESTOKNEE SURGERY. PRE AND POST CARTILAGE MAPPING DONE AT INTERVAL OF 6 MONTHS MINIMUM AND EVEN MORE.WHICH SHOWS REMARKABLE HEALTHY CARTILAGE REGENERATION AFTER RESTOKNEE SURGERY.

HERE IS ONE ASSESMENT REPORT OF 66 YEARS OLD MALE PATIENT PRE AND POST OPERATIVELY-

INVESTIGATION: MRI OF LEFT KNEE JOINT FOR CARTILAGE EVALUATION
